Hi everyone, I posted probably 18 months ago here, and thanks for the answers I got. Our dd had a complete neuropsych eval as a result of your comments, which gave us indications of dyslexia, adhd inattentive, executive functioning, processing speed, among other things. We applied to a school for language based ld's; they reviewed her reports then asked for further info, they wanted us to get a speech & language eval, so we went for that later. My dd feels really bad about her academics anyway and doesn't seem to "get" that this is for her help. Anyway, the school let us know recently that they are not the right place for her and they recommended a school which deals more specifically with speech/lang. issues, saying that she needs sp/lang therapy. I don't even know what they said about her that is much different than the neuropsych eval. But she does have receptive and expressive language difficulties. Yikes, I feel like I'm starting over from scratch, here!

Does anyone have a child with speech/language difficulties here? I could use some help. Home schooling just hasn't worked for us, b/c she absolutely won't let me teach her, and she is unable to learn without someone there with her. She's in a Christian school this year, but really that isn't the ticket either, of course. I am up until way past my bedtime doing homework with her, some of which she still doesn't understand, especially the math.

We have a private (i.e., expensive) tutor doing study skill strategies and the like, along with some basic things such as phonemic awareness and writing skills; she is a huge help, sometimes helping with larger school assignments.

Where to go from here? We could contact the ps and set up an evaluation with them for an IEP, but I've read on home schooling sites that that's not necessarily the best way to go, and I shudder at the thought of sending her to a huge public high school since she's such a pleaser and so concerned about appearances and having friends that she could easily go astray without even knowing. I could try again to home school her, and really I think that would be the most helpful for her if she would get her attitude straight, but I'd have to spend so much time with her that I'm not sure how I could hs my now 3rd grade ds as well. The speech/language school is probably out of the question b/c of the long drive through dense commuter traffic, and probably the cost as well, which I haven't even checked how much it is yet, but the commute alone would probably put me over the edge.

Does anyone have any thoughts?
Thank you so very much.
Diane
