If you are homeschooling a special-needs child in New York State and your child receives services through the school district, that arrangement is about to change. The State Education Department has announced (within the past few days) that based on its interpretation of IDEA, school districts may NOT provide services to homeschooled children. Previously this was up to the individual school districts.
This has evolved very quickly, and parents whose children will be affected are having to scramble to figure out other arrangements.
I have been in contact with HSLDA, and they say they are aware of the situation, but to date there is no info about it on their website.
I am including a link to an Albany Times-Union newspaper article about this.
