I have a six year old who is really struggling to learn his letter sounds. I'm teaching him the letters one at a time (not in ABC order) and not by name but by sound. We've been at this since August and he only has learned five of them (and he forgets them). In August, he could count to 12. Now after much discussion and counting together and other activities, he's up to 13. Thing is, he is really gifted when it comes to science (specifically loudspeakers since my dh is a loudspeaker engineer) and geography. I just feel like I'm hitting a glass wall and he is falling more and more behind his peers. He has a mild sensory integration dysfunction, which has gotten much better since going on a gluten free diet. I will most likely be trying Ball, Stick, Bird curriculum with him next year as a friend of mine with a child with similar issues has had success with it. Does anyone have any other ideas?
