I recently moved to SLC as well. I have just decided to homeschool my children. As I research more and more, the Classical Education makes so much sense. That is what brought me to this site. My first grader (son) will finish out the school year at Howard Driggs Elementary in Holladay. My 4 year old daughter currently attends preschool at Hilltop Christian School in Sandy. She will be in Kindergarten next year. I also have a 5 month old little girl. We moved from Des Moines, IA but have also lived in Boise, ID.
I am not unhappy with either school. Both of my children like it and are doing very well. It just seems like a waste of learning time when my son is in school all day then brings home more homework. We spend so much time on school, there is little time for anything else to enrich their education. I feel like we could accomplish more at home in a fraction of the time and also have time to spend on other forms of educational activities (music, dance, art, gardening, cooking, hiking, etc...) I would also like the flexibilty in our schedule to go visit family or take a vacation when my husband has down time at work.
Those are my main reasons for deciding to homeschool my children. I never thought I would be a homeschooling parent although I have a very good friend who's children have thrived being homeschooled. I was always anxious for the free time I thought I would get once my kids were in school. Now, I can't wait to spend more time with them.
Sincerely,
Julie
