I just reread my post. We aren't going slowly because they wouldn't understand if we went faster - the book isn't that complicated, and with the outside reading we could easily cover a section or two every day and still have good comprehension. We're going slowly because *I* am struggling to understand chemistry in order to teach it to my kids! It's the subject I'm most likely to put off, as it's the one I never learned, and it takes the most mental effort on my part.
