It also depends what you're using as a measure of appropriate "maturity" for his age...

I think ps kids seem to grow up rather quickly these days and often notice a difference between tham and homeschooled or other alternative-schooled kids. For example, in my TKD school, I had ps kids, homeschooled kids and Montessori kids. The hs and Montessri kids seemed to be on about the same page socially, but the same-aged ps kids seemed older and more "street smart" or maybe that's not the right term, but more adapted to the pack mentality of ps...

I'm seeing it here now, too. We're in a neighborhood and sometimes we'll got the school playground in the evenings but there is definitely a difference socially between my dd and her schooled peers- which usually ends badly so we don't really go anymore. She also has a new homeschooled friend in the neighborhood who was schooled last year and I see a big difference in their socialization. We don't have the same issues when she plays with her other homeschooled mates.

Obviously this is a generalization and we do know lots of really nice ps kids- I just think kids are often forced to mature earlier in ps. And dd does have some sensory issues so that certainly contributes to some of the social situations she gets into, but since she has lots of other playdates w/o such issues, it's not the only factor.

BTW_ Dawn- I'm in VA too- just moved here this summer.
