We've did chapter tests for one, SM for another, but what we've also done is

to use 2 programs to do it more in depth for ds. He does Singapore Math and MUS and sometimes MCP (given to us by a friend) and Miquon. He really needs to do math in depth rather than race ahead right now, even though he is gifted. While many gifted kids go quickly, some are gifted differently and like to work things in great depth.

My 9 yo is accellerated in math, but we ended up slowing down somewhat and doing 2 programs. She could be much farther ahead than she is in certain areas of math, such as geometry, but she really needs to spend more time to learn her math facts as she is a visual spatial learner and did not do well with drills. She knows them now, but doesn't have the interest in math she used to (except geometry, but I can't see doing a separate geometry program right now as she loves history not math.) Also, she forgets certain things if she takes too long off math. I'm not expecting her to be ready for Algebra before age 11, and then I don't know how long of an attention span she will have, so we may just do the mechanics of Algebra until 13. Then we will do my favourite Algebra which is Gelfand's because it teaches the theory behind it and has some very long problems.
