We skip levels and then we use the chapter tests to accelerate further. If they get everything right on the chapter test, we skip the chapter. I got the idea from our MTS results. I can't think of the name of the approach, but it is where you test the students to see what they know, and then only teach what they don't know.
To skip levels, it helps if you are comfortable with math. Sometimes you do find something that they missed (not often, LOL), and you have to teach it on the spot, but not very often.
I also teach math facts aside from the concepts. We do a different math facts program.
