Just to explain, when a man is finished with his teaching, reading, and so forth, he asks if anyone has a comment, question, etc. Children are encouraged to be involved in this portion as well, as long as they truly have something to say that pertains to the teaching/reading. A few early teen-age children will have a comment here and there as well, but no one Nathan's age.
So, I don't see that the men seem threatened, but that it stands out to my husband as another way he isn't like his peers.
