Whenever we worry that our children will turn out like so-and-so BECAUSE they are homeschooled, we remind ourselves that so-and-so wasn't homeschooled, so it probably has nothing to do with that. And yes, "geeks" have "interesting" social skills. They often are highly successful, too. When they get together with other geeks, their social styles match and things get better. Not that you might not want to teach some skills, too. My older children thought their younger brother was doomed, too, for similar reasons, but he is 13 now and has a group of friends that share his interests and does fine. He always did fine with adults. When you are 8, it is hard to have good social skills with people with whom you have nothing in common and whose social skills aren't really up to snuff themselves. None of this is particularly helpful, but hopefully it will be a bit comforting. ;)
