We have participated in their summer programs for the past two years, and are quite impressed with them. For an 11 year old, that would be day-camps, but after seventh grade, the summer camps are 3 week residential. Both my kids found them to be just terrific, and a wonderful boost to their homeschool experience, since they learn many things that we don't cover at home.

We've also participated in their "Cogito" forum boards, where they have a professor in a particularly field (this one was Biomedical) discussing his work and answering questions from the young people. We just did that this week--- very fun! The moderator even emailed my ds later to follow up with some information about one of his questions-- great!

Also, they have family workshops. We are going to attend the Nanoscale Engineering one in February at Johns Hopkins. These are one-day workshops on particular fields of study.

So I would take advantage of such programs. By taking the SCAT exam, you can prepare for the SAT which they offer to 12 year olds. Great experience, and possibly could lead to scholarships and open doors to many opportunities.
