have two dds, 9 yo, doing ALEKS (thanks to the person who recommended it on this board), and they argue over who get to do it first. DH has volunteered his sacred computer so they can be on ALEKS at the same time. I have to drag them off the computer.
Seriously, though, ALEKS is working great for us. The kids started with an assessment. ALEKS then gives them a pie chart of what they know and what they need to learn. As they progress, the piece of pie fills up. It's a great visual for them. The kids are also free to work on whatever section they like. They're discovering geometry and love it. I like that they have the freedom to choose what to do next (we're Montessori people).
Other things I like -- I get periodic reports on their progress and you can customize reports to check their progress on your state standards.
