Okay, so I have no life other than hsing, and I'm perfectly happy with that! I've not done this, but I would welcome the possibility at some point.

I would take into consideration where the 8yo is out currently. Is she having spelling/reading problems that have caused her mom to turn to you? Is it just for summer? Does this girl hs, or is she being taught something that might conflict at her school?

Assuming this is just for the summer, that she attends ps, and that she's NOT reading where she "should be," I would do lessons 3 or 4 times per week, with a max of 30 mins. per lesson. I would insist on at least 3x per week so that she can get at least some exposure to SWR. I would charge $10 per 30 min. lesson, unless there were extenuating circumstances that I felt would warrant a much lower "token" price.

I would slowly introduce the phonograms, having her practice writing them too (in whatever style she already writes, but encouraging legibility). In the beginning, I think 30 mins. of phonograms would be pretty intense, so I'd spice mix up regular phonogram work with a couple of phonogram games, jumping around to the phonogram, using chalk outside for her to write, bending her body into the letter shapes, jumping.

I would also encourage her mom to sit in and review the phonograms with her at home on days she is not with you. IF her mom (or you) feel uncomfortable with this, I'd encourage her to run by for 5 mins. on the "off" days so you can at least review orally, and I wouldn't charge for it (or I'd cut lessons to 25 mins. to save the other 5 mins. for the "off" days).
