I'm confident someone here knows this.
Saturday night, I ordered a refurbished laptop from Dell. Their current special was to ship with 3-5 day delivery via UPS. When I checked the order status Monday morning, it showed that it had been shipped. Their site has the status as "In Transit to Shipper." They have a note saying that it takes 48-72 hours to get to the shipper's regional center, and that's when I will get the tracking number.
My question? How is it possible for them to routinely take 3 days to get a tracking number? Is my laptop sitting in their shipping department, as a makeshift table for someone's lunch? Or is it making its way to me, and when I do get my tracking number, there will still be a chance it will get here within the 3 to 5 days?
My delivery window opens tomorrow. If it's in their shipping department, I won't jump up at every squeal of bad brakes, thinking it's the Man in Brown bringing me a treasure. But if it could be on its way, even without tracking number, I want to be around to sign for it!
Any thoughts or clues?
