The hidden costs of homeschooling...

I remember when I first began the homeschooling journey, I calulated informally all the gazillion ways I would save money...no lunch money, no school clothes, no school activities that nickle and dime parents, etc. I also calculated the expense of homeschooling i.e. co-ops, curriculum, extra classes, etc. But as time goes on I'm seeing some "hidden costs" that I never would have considered until I actually began homeschooling. Here's some ideas 1)House wear and tear. My kids are home all day and are very hard on the house. Therefore I'm cleaning a lot more and as a result spending a lot more on cleaning supplies, carpet cleaning, etc. 2) Food. My kids are home more so of course they're eating more.
These are a couple ideas off the top of my head. I'm curious if anyone can think of some others.
Just curious... Amy
Follow Ups:
- Books! I'm a great buyer of books - always have been, always will be - but, I'm also a great user of the library. Many of the books that I buy, I'd just check out from the library if we weren't homeschooling. I don't consider this an unexpected expense, however. I consider it an unexpected *bonus* - - lol - - nt - - - Rosemary in Colorado 21:13 Jun 28

- More trash. We have to pay extra for trash pick-up over one container. We always have more than everyone who is gone all day and it really costs through the nose. nt - Katia 20:36 Jun 28

- It's mostly me having to own the latest cool homeschooly gadget, science equipment, library fines, and Oh! The shoes are killing me. I just have to make sure people know mine are hs'd by their expensive shoes, don't cha know ;d. nt - Veronica 20:05 Jun 28

- homeschooling is definitely more expensive than sending them to the local school, I agree, but still cheaper than a private school for us. nt - Peela 19:14 Jun 28

- Playground equipment. We ended up popping for a Rainbow rationalize that they'd use it a lot! And, extra "educational" fieldtrips add up fast. nt - Carol (mom of 3) 18:06 Jun 28

- Gas usage (for the car) because of driving to co-op's or lessons or museums or playdates etc. nt - mama of two-ize 16:58 Jun 28

- Higher energy costs... our AC is on longer, since folks are home all day every day. nt - Kay in Cal 16:49 Jun 28
