Who can tell me where to stay in North Michigan for two nights (m)

I want to visit Soo Locks (sp?), Mackinac Island, the sand dunes and Traverse City (not during the cherry festival).

Is there anyplace that is charming, not expensive and will take four kids (really well behaved)?

Also, is there any site I should include?

All ideas welcome - including offers of letting us crash in your place! :0)
