Normally, I try to avoid bleach, but since we moved into a home with a new jetted tub, I am careful to follow the directions to keep it in good working order.
The directions that came with my tub call for the jets to be cleaned every2-4 weeks, or more often depending on usage. Run a tub full with hot water, with the "air" part of the jets off. To this, add 1/2 C. liquid dishwasher soap, and 3 C. bleach. Let it run for 10 minutes. Then, run 2 more tubs full of cold water, with the jets on all the way for 5-10 minutes each.
This keeps the jets clean, rinses the bleach out well before use, and kills anything that may be hiding in the jets :-)
