the two dogs meet before hand and like each other (in all the years I've adopted out dogs I never had one returned because dogs who got along on sight changed thier minds later). And I would definitely look for a male, better chemistry between a male-female mix as a rule. If you have to option for a foster-to-adopt, that would be a good way to try it out at home.
