I like to train a puppy with a grown dog that has perfect manners and voice control. I say the word and give the signal. To get their attention, I stomped on the ground and threw a tiny pebble near or on them. They learned to just keep looking back at me for commands...these were very good dogs though...Shepard X's with obedience in their blood. HTH
