and my problem is... I'm not! I can be totally kind and reasonable in the middle of the night, even on no sleep. So, of course, I get left holding the bag (or the toddler). I also sleep very lightly. When my boys were babies in thier cosleeper, I would literally wake up if they coughed, smacked their lips, or rolled over. Cars driving by, barking dogs... I"m awake again.
We do have a routine of story, prayers, song and special good night words. He just doesn't want to sleep! I've also tried to get him to go sleep with his brother (dead the world like daddy) instead of us, but he just wants--Mommy!
What he really wants is to sleep with his face sunk into my breasts. He'll literally breath deep and say "Breasties! Mommy's breasties!" It's cute--but not every night at 3am. He also wants water, and sometimes snacks (this was the kid who would try to eat all night for a long time, remember? Before we weaned, he was basically latched on from the time his head hit the pillow until he woke up.)
Sounds like he is asleep now. I'll go unlatch him, and he'll probably come in in a couple of hours. I have tried to put him back to bed, but sometimes I just don't want to wake up that much. Because he comes back. Over and over and over.
