My elementary memories (and I was a very bright kid) are pretty horrific in terms of relationship, lots of bullying, etc. I did make some good friend eventually, but it wasn't instant by any means. And if she is mature for her age, she may be surprised to find out that there aren't a lot of her peers who are ready for the type of friendship she is looking for. The truth is, even if she is in school, it is going to take work to build up friendships. After school time, weekend time.
So I would say--are there kids that she wants to connect with from co-op or sports? Has she called them (or you call moms) to set up play dates? It takes time to find a "buddy", whatever the settting. What about your friends? Do they have kids that she can bond with? How do you model committed friendship?
