My dad, 75, has this. It seems to have been caused by radiation to treat his prostate cancer. He is going for a 2nd round of bcg treatments. The dr indicated that this was to be expected, however I'm reading some rather discouraging things about the cure and recurrence rate of this cancer even after drastic surgery. (I don't mean recurrence in the same place after surgery.)
My folks live 350 miles from us. I've been following some of the aging parent threads on this board. My dad is still very able, but I'm very concerned about 1 to 3 years down the road.
They live in a 20 year old, very cheap single wide trailer that is falling into an ever increasing state of dilapidation. We were up there this past week fixing holes in the floor that if some one had misstepped hard, he or she would have sunk a leg through. I have nothing against living in a mobile home, but my folks can very well afford a house or a new trailer, anything that isn't falling apart. My mother's mobility isn't the best and she has fallen several times. If my dad becomes really ill she will not be able to care for him.
I guess I'm looking for an idea of what we're in for. We have considered moving there, but the housing market here has tanked, and jobs for dh there are about nonexistent now.
Thanks for any advice, support.
