For older kids, Walmart has the 2 gallon ziplocs for their clothes.
Another idea is a headlight. My ds's love them for when they can't fall asleep - they can read and not bother anyone. They're also good for late bathroom visits.
I would also send a zinc-based diaper rash ointment if your son is going to be spending extended periods of time in a wet bathing suit. Advise him to put it on if he gets a rash - AFTER he's dry and changed for the night. This has been a lifesaver for two of my boys.
