I remember they showed the bed bugs hiding in the cracks between the wood pieces of the bed frame. They were very flat and could fit in a really tiny space. You need to check between the wood pieces of your bed frame, headboard, night stands, floorboards (if wood), etc. It's likely, though, that they are living very close to the place you found the black spots. Even if you haven't found bite marks, the fact that there was blood means one of you was bitten, even if it's the dog.
