In Reply to: Guinea Pigs - how do *they* make for pets? :-P (m) posted by Sharon in SC

we have two gp's. Both will sit for an hour or more on one of the kids while they read. The pets are very transportable and can be taken anywhere we are going. My kids have even used a leash for them outside on soft surfaces. The kids build cardboard cities for them and hide snacks of carrots etc. for the pigs to run around and find. We have enclosures for them to be outside when the kids are.
Daily cleaning of the cages is needed but it's not hard. Just some general cleaning out of droppings. Once a week the entire cage is cleaned and bedding is replaced. You'll need to have a supply of fresh hay, pellets and fruits/veg for daily feeding. You will also need to either learn to clip their nails or pay to have it done on a monthly basis. We also bathe our pigs once a week to once every second week. The bathing is super easy to do.
Guinea Pigs make 11 (? can't quite remember exact number) sounds and it's interesting to listen for all the sounds.
That's my take on gp's for pets.
