Guinea pigs are more cuddly than hamsters (we have both, as well as a rabbit and cats) but they are definitely higher-maintenance, at least ours is. He requires lots of cage-cleaning to keep him from being stinky. I also bathe him every time I clean his cage, though I don't think that's necessary. I just do it because he seems to get sort of grimy and oily. Feeding him is easy - just a daily dose of g. pig pellets, timothy hay, and some fresh food like carrots, parsley, apples. Piggies need their nails clipped from time to time, and I take ours to the vet for this because the time I tried to do it, I didn't do a very good job. :) Piggies make very cute squealing noises and can be very active and energetic, though ours happens to pretty phlegmatic. We adopted him from someone else and he was already 4 years old or so, so I don't know what it's like to raise them from very young. I would imagine if you got a young one, you could train it to be very cuddly with you. Let me know if I can help you further!
