oatmeal baths, benadryl and caladryl are our best friends.
Are you sure they are bites and not hives?
Either way what you have done is great. He should be fine. I'd keep an eye on him. If he starts breathing funny then take him to the dr. otherwise just keep him on benadryl for a few days if he's itchy.
