They have probably provided you with a camp equipment list - be sure to follow that list closely. Typical items would include sunscreen, hat, bug repellent, swimsuit, different types of shoes needed, pillow, sleeping bag, etc.
What I make sure to send with my dd in addition to the basics - stamps & cards, foaming shower soap, extra socks, and a stock of granola bars. The granola bars are for snacks and times when the camp food is not so great - that may happen during the week once or twice. She also got a nifty water bottle that wasn't too big or small with a good sippy top.
What most camps will not allow are cell phones, ipods, gameboys, you get the picture. Oh and don't skimp on the sunscreen. I get the spray kind that makes it easy to get good coverage.
My dd goes to horse camp so there are special things that she needs espec. in the area of footwear and other gear but anything special like that they should have informed you about.
Don't forget the health forms! Go over them and make sure that they are completely filled out. They will be looking at that foremost when you check in.
Hope your camper has a great experience. My dd has been going for 3 years now, starting when she was 10. This year she barely had time to say goodbye in her haste to get going with the other campers. Boo hoo! We were in and out of camp in 20 minutes. I hope she misses me just a little bit.
