I was SURE there was cannibalism involved. Why else would the granddaughter react that way? That was so COMPLETELY unbelieveable. I mean, come ON! Nobody DIED. Nobody was EATEN. Why was this so horrifying that she fled away in shame, shame, shame? Bah.

Of course there needed to be the separation for the story to happen. And it fed the story. But, sheesh.
