Effexor - could this anti-dep. make and elderly person act confused?(m)

My fil is having some trouble with confusion and I was wondering if if could have anything to do his taking Effexor. He has a follow-up appt with psychiatrist but not for a week and I wanted to ask you all for any feedback you might care to give. He takes very little other med. - the only other one that comes to mind is Toprol (for irregular heartbeat).
