Go to your start menu and click on "Help and Support".

There should be an option to "Undo changes made and go to System Restore" or something like that. If you click on that, it will give you steps to restore your system back to a different date. So if you "lost" your favorites folder today, you would change the date to say yesterday or the day before and it would restore the computer to how it was on that date.

That is how I know how scary it can be to lose those items. I thought I was going to have a heart attack not too long ago when my bookmarks were all gone. Dh showed me how to restore the system and voila! They're back! Aren't computers amazing? Anyway, he has also backed up my bookmarks as well, which is good.

I don't know if there is a way to restore systems using a different operating system, but I would imagine if it's a recent one, it should be able to. I have *no* clue about mac's however!
