and it was great! I don't have any real good advice as far as curriculum specifics, but I wanted to tell you to encourage your friend to have her kids keep daily journals. We did 14 different states, and studied about each one while on the road. The kids had state coloring books and we used a childrens atlas to read as we went. Each night they wrote a small page about what we did/saw/experienced that day. My 4 yo would narrate her day and I wrote it for her, and then she would color something or glue memoroblia about the day into her journal. This really made our trip special, and is an excellent keepsake.
Some people thought we were just crazy to travel like that with four little kids, they were almost 2, 4,6 & 8 at the time. It was the best thing we ever did, and they loved it. Three years later they still can't wait to do it again, and all but the youngest remembers most of the trip.
