perhaps too much sugar in late afternoon/early evening? We don't allow juice, milk, tea, etc. after dinner for our ds who has trouble settling down. Water. Period. No sugary snacks. Pretzels, dry, non-sugary cereal, popcorn, etc. No caffeine for youngers period at any time of day. My dd2 is a night owl. We put her down when others go down, but allow her to get up once. We read, cuddle, etc. For us, it's one of the only times we have to do that. After that, she goes down very easily. Often she'll end up in our bed around 12 or 1am, but that's okay with dh and I...for now! Not sure why he'd be up ready to play that late. Oh, try some homeopathic Chamomila pellets. They work with my dc when they are just "wired".
