I did the neighborhood thing and I'd rather be the destination home for people to come to. You can't pick your neighbors, but you can pick your friends. I also love having room for my kids to run around outside in the yard and not just in the street with a pack of neighborhood kids. That said, we ended up with homeschool kids in our neighborhood of larger lots, but I would die before going back to the close knit planned community.
