Babysitters pay taxes? Is this true? My 17 dd babysits every Friday and sometimes another day for the same family. The father mentioned tonight

that he hadn't figured up how much he had paid her last year, but if it was over $700 then he'd have to report it. I'm pretty sure she has. Is it true that babysitters have to pay taxes if they make more than $700? We haven't been putting anything aside. I don't even know how to file for her. Can somebody help me here? I know if she was working for Chik Fil A or the like that they would be taking out taxes on her. Is she considered self-employed? Will she have to file a 1099 and pay taxes at a higher rate? HELP!!!

Many thanks,

Molly
