And can I make money at it?
I bought two plain jeans at Kohl's, on clearance, for my teen daughter for Christmas, then embellished them myself after seeing the prices on the embellished Candies brand as $34 and up. They cost me $25 each to make, not counting my time, of course. So, I'd have to charge $50 a pair to make money - and more $$ would be better. LOL. And/or, find jeans at wholesale or resale or really low clearance prices to cut my costs.
I bought the trim and appliques, and think they turned out really cute; I have lots more ideas and an "eye" for what looks good (I think!).
So my question is, do you think there's a market for this? Do any of you have experience marketing custom clothing to the high end stores that carry it? Or, in this day and age, do you just create a web page and sell online?
Yea, I did poke around ebay a bit, and they were selling for $80 ish, if at all. There certainly were many, many pairs on there with no takers, which makes me wonder if they don't sell well, or if ebay is just not the place to try to sell custom clothes. I personally think they would sell like hotcakes around here (affluent DFW area) if I can figure out how to go about it. I think embellished jeans will be a hit with teen girls for a good while.
Any thoughts welcome. I'm just kicking the idea around. I haven't done serious sewing in a long time and I think I'm kinda getting the itch!
