thank you for all the suggestions. Getting a lower level chem book is also a very good idea.
You're exactly right - where will I be if I don't try...still wondering. I keep telling my kids they can do anything they set their minds to, how can I expect less of myelf?
I'm a determined person...although this is totally new territory and makes me feel a little like jello on the inside.

Hopefully, I'm meeting with the counselor soon; she gets back to work on the 4th. It will be cutting it close as classes begin around the 18th.
