It's when we aren't doing things for others that we think about what we are feeling. We always "feel" we don't always mull over those feelings.

My favorite movie on this subject is "Razor's Edge" (1984 movie starring Bill Murray) One of the best scenes is Bill Murray wandering around India trying to find spiritual relief to his angst. He comes across a monk standing in a dug out canoe washing dishes who tells him that washing dishes is the pathway to enlightenment. It's great. I think about it from time to time when doing chores. Oh yeah, and the other scene that is my favorite is when he's trying to become enlightened on the top of the mountain. I won't spoil it by telling you what happens but it's worth renting. It's both funny and dark.
