Didn't work for us - had to modify significantly

It didn't work for ds as written. We had to change things quite a bit. Now, we pretest the words and only study the words he doesn't know perfectly, without hesitation. If he hesitates or mispells it, he studies the word. We don't spend a week on the whole list. Instead, ds studies only the missed words and memorizes them using visualization techniques. The next day we test them again without looking at them beforehand. They stay on the daily tests until he gets them right, and once every two weeks we go back over all missed words in the previous 3-4 chapters to retest them, and to restudy any that were a problem.

By doing it this way we are moving through the book much more quickly with much more retention. Every week or two we use a few of the activities in the book for logic practice - how to do puzzles, how to do word comparisons, how to find errors, etc. They've never helped here for learning how to spell the words. Visualization is the only thing that helps with that.
