In Reply to: POLL: those of you doing LCC (or LCC-ish), what curriculum are you using this year for each kid for each subject? posted by dragons in the flower bed
We are an -ish, but I do belong to the yahoo group and get a lot out of it. I'm also enjoying the discussion group of The Great Tradition that just started.
dds 10 and 8
Math - Saxon 6/5 and Saxon 3. We supplement with Singapore. (Daily)
Latin - Latin Prep and Lively Latin (Daily)
Writing - Classical Composition and Copywork (Daily)
Classical Studies -(together) The Story of Greece - Macgregor and D'Aulaire's Greek Myths (Weekly)
American (World) Studies - (together) The World of Christopher Columbus and Sons followed by The World of Captain John Smith - both by Foster. (Twice per week)
Geography - (together) The Holling C. Hollings series. Memorizing the 50 states, capitals, etc. (Weekly)
Science - (together) The Story Book of Science - Fabre (Weekly)
Classes the kids do individually are in the morning during "table time." The classes in which we read together are done in the afternoon. (I do not insist that my children do their independent subjects daily, 3 times per week, etc. This is just the schedule that we seem to have fallen into.)
Non LCC classes
Grammar - Michael Thompson and FLL3 (3 times per week)
Spelling - Calvert Spelling CDs (3 times per week)
Great Books - (together) Adler's Gateway to the Great Books (3 times per week)
Reading / Literature - dd8 reads aloud Little House Series with me. dd 10 discusses Shakespeare and classic novels with me (3 times per week)
Any other subjects I simply provide the materials and allow the kids to do with them what they will in their free time. I try and be available as needed.
Includes the CM stuff:
