We used to have the Franklin Pocket Dictionary and it was wonderful..

my dh used it all the time. It also included an NIV Bible card and we bought an encyclopedia card. The pronunciation feature was fantastic. It was a clear pronunciation that really sounded human. Maybe it was a recorded human, I don't really know. The buttons were easy to press (think unlike your cell phone) and had good spacing. It had great battery life. We never changed the batteries, in fact.

We gave it away to someone who truly would cherish it but it was a bittersweet parting. I think we would get a lot of use out of another one, even with Wikipedia and internet access. The big red dictionary in our house is so unwieldy. We certainly wouldn't take it anywhere and the kids won't have internet on their computers...

I think it could be a worth investment if you bought the name brand ones.
