. . . what I have been told (assured, actually) by folks who've been through this process with their homeschoolers is that most colleges will allow a student to apply as a freshman regardless of how many credits he/she has accumulated. You just can't apply those credits toward your degree. (And even that seems to be flexible and vary from college to college. Apparently, in some cases, you can apply as a freshman and then apply separately at some point later in your college career to have some or all of the previous credits applied to your degree program, after all.)
