Our plan was to have one of our daughters take some college credits at the local college, but after we took a couple of courses (art and music), we discovered on this and other lists that the college credits a high school student earned could bump them from freshman to sophomore status -- rendering them eligible for much less financial aid when it's time to attend college full time.
I still want to do the college courses, but I don't know how to make sure we don't get into trouble trying to get financial aid later. The colleges seem to have all different criteria...but after reading the recent discussion about taking electives at college, it occurred to me: If we're just taking electives, who says we have to report the credits to the next college or anywhere else? I suppose we'd be out the money, because the credits wouldn't "count." I just don't know, but we really would love to have our daughter take some of these courses -- it gave her such a confidence boost and gave her a chance to see what the environment/expectations are going to be like.
How are other people doing this?
