Karen,
Your son sounds so much like mine. He was part way through Singapore 6A and stalled. I know he is ready for Algebra. He is very good at math, yet he says he hates math. He is extremely visual spatial.

We tried Videotext Algebra with him this fall and it didn't work. So I've been trying to figure out what to do with him. I was debating about Teaching Textbooks - he took a look at the website and said he liked it. But I am short on cash at the moment so I thought I would try out what I have first.

I started him on Jacobs. After the initial meltdowns, he is doing fine. About 4 or so lessons into the book. He now says he likes Jacobs better than any other math he's done. I tried him in NEM also, but he absolutely melted at the concept that it was from Singapore and said he didn't understand anything, so I guess that's out.

Jacobs is much more appealing as a result. I have not done Lial's because I don't have that lying around. I will stick with Jacobs, unless we run into a big problem. I sit and explain the lesson to him and then he does a set - either 2 or 3. We do 1 orally together. He is not a word person, unlike my older 2 children. So far this is working.

In Him,
Christina
