Would you consider using a GED test prep book for your student as a core?

I mean, Im very nervous about my 13 year old's level and all. He's not studious. Would these test prep books be a good guide as to what he would need to know prior to graduating and prior to taking the SAT's? The reason Im not looking at an SAT prep book is that I dont think it will cover everything that the GED book will. Is that true?
