having her do either a US govt class or a comparative govt class? Focusing on learning about either the US govt or comparing different forms of govt might provide some structure and would provide excellent background for her if she is going to major in political science.
One other thought -- have you considered a semester-long course in economics? Anybody going into political science should have at least a rudimentary knowledge of economics!
